Subsequent care of the client

    From the administrative point of view, after the hand over of the guide dog, the client becomes his owner. However, with the handover, the contact between the client and Czech Guide Dog School does not end. The dog was expertly chosen and trained for the client and the client was taught and trained as well, but the last word always belongs to the client and the dog. The acquainting of the new owner and the dog may take several weeks or months. Mutual trust of the person and the dog comes only when the dog is comfortable in his new environment and fully respects his new owner. We are fully ready to resolve any problems that may arise from these thin acquaintances. Sometimes it’s only a matter of the details but if the dog and the owner cannot cooperate at any level then there might be a need to return or exchange the dog. The client, the owner of the guide dog remains our client throughout the whole use of the dog and he or she can turn to Czech Guide Dog School for help for any kind of problems, no matter how far they live..

After the handover of the guide dog to the client we then offer:

• Counseling.
• Traveling to the home and fixing any problems on the spot.
• The training of new routes.
• Practicing with the dog in Prague – a free stay at Czech Guide Dog School.
• Regular Thursday afternoons aimed at practicing the dog´s job in their active job.
• Cooperation with the club of owners of guide dogs - which brings the users of guide dogs together and organizes contests and summer housing with Czech Guide Dog School instructors' participation.
• As mentioned above, the guide dog is a compensational help and is financed up to the full price. The receiving of this dog is then governed by the law regulations. Above all, the owner of such help, must be using the help for 5 years, must not give it away, sell it or get rid of it in any other way. If the owner stops using the help within those 5 years, he or she must return an aliquot part of the received money to the office, which gave it to them. This includes also the situations if the dog is returned or if he dies after being handed over. Consequently, the client is going to have a long and complicated business with the office, sometimes even the ministry. Czech Guide Dog School in those circumstance (returning the dog to Czech Guide Dog School or if he dies) provides a warranty, that they will figure out and solve the situation with the office. This means that the aliquot part of money that must be returned is returned by Czech Guide Dog School, not the client.
